The Iwata cup is based on the Japan method of liquid viscosity measurement. It has a tapered orifice with the internal diameter of 50mm to the external diameter 86mm.It is suitable for rapid measurement of the viscosity of the products to be sprayed on the construction site.It is widely used in electronic products, plastics and coatings industries. However, the procedure of usage is the same as that of the Zahn Cups.

- Stir the coating thoroughly, then fully immerse the entire cup in the coating for 1 to 5 minutes to achieve temperature equilibrium.
- Lift the viscosity cup vertically and steadily upward. Start the stopwatch the moment the cup rim clears the liquid surface.
- Keep the cup body vertical; the distance between the cup bottom and the liquid surface below shall not exceed 150 mm.
- Observe the outflow stream from the bottom. Stop timing when the liquid column breaks for the first time.
- Perform the measurement twice repeatedly. The test data is valid only if the difference between the two readings is less than 5% of their average value.
- Immediately rinse the orifice and inner wall of the cup with the matching solvent after testing to avoid dried paint clogging the hole.
