Printing ink drying speed directly causes production defects such as trapping failure, plate scumming and printed sheet blocking. This instrument simulates ambient oxidative drying conditions in the laboratory, automatically records the surface-to-core drying process of ink drawdowns, and obtains accurate drying time data. It is used for ink formulation R&D, factory outgoing quality inspection and incoming material acceptance for printing enterprises.

Test Principle

The ink drawdown sample and tracing paper are fixed on the surface of the instrument’s rotating drum. The drum rotates slowly at a constant speed. A 100g pressure wheel revolves together with the drum and moves horizontally along the drum axis at a uniform speed. The pressure wheel applies constant pressure on the tracing paper continuously. If the ink is not dry, ink will transfer and stain the tracing paper. When the ink is fully dried, no ink transfer will occur. After the test, the position of stained stripes is analyzed to calculate the surface drying time and through-drying time of the ink. Controlled by a single-chip microcomputer, the LCD screen displays test duration and operating status in real time. The whole test runs automatically without manual monitoring.

Core Advantages

  1. Complies with QB562 and ASTM D5909 ink dryness test standards. Test reports support foreign trade delivery and customer acceptance.
  2. Rotating drum plus 100g constant pressure wheel, stable pressure simulating stacking pressure of printed sheets, ensuring excellent test repeatability.
  3. Programmable timing control, adjustable test period from 3 to 48 hours; LCD real-time parameter display, fully automatic operation.
  4. Robust and stable structure, easy operation. It completes continuous sample recording in one run, no manual watch required.
  5. Parallel comparison between reference sample and test ink is available for convenient comparison of old and new formulations.
